Government Shutdown Update

Today, the Senate voted 81-18 to fund the federal government through February 8, effectively ending the shutdown of the federal government. The House is expected to pass the measure later today, and President Trump will quickly sign it into law. In exchange for Democratic votes, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) promised to bring an immigration bill to the Senate floor for a vote.

Congress still needs to agree on top-line spending numbers for fiscal year 2018. Once that figure is settled upon, lawmakers will have to craft an omnibus appropriations bill to fund the government at those levels.

The Office of Federal Relations will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as available.
